The Circular Economy Era of Flexible Packaging

The global call for a circular economy has never been louder in 2026, with governments, consumers and enterprises all uniting to promote the transformation of the packaging industry from a "linear model" of take-make-dispose to a "circular model" of reduce-reuse-recycle. As one of the most widely used packaging forms in the food, beverage and consumer goods industries, composite bags are facing unprecedented pressure to become more sustainable and recyclable. Traditional multi-layer composite bags, made of incompatible materials, have long been a pain point in the packaging recycling system due to their difficulty in separation and recycling.

As a forward-looking composite bag manufacturer, we have taken the circular economy as our core R&D direction, investing over 15% of our annual revenue in the research and development of recyclable composite bag technologies and products. After years of unremitting efforts, we have launched a series of R&D-driven recyclable composite bag solutions that balance performance, sustainability and cost, leading the packaging innovation in the era of circular economy and helping brands meet the increasingly strict global sustainability regulations and consumer demand for green packaging.

Driving Recyclable Packaging Transformation

The circular economy's requirements for flexible packaging are clear and specific: packaging materials must be recyclable, reusable or biodegradable; the use of virgin plastic must be reduced; and the entire life cycle of packaging must be low-carbon and environmentally friendly. In recent years, major economies around the world have introduced a series of stringent policies to promote the recycling of packaging materials: the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requires that all flexible packaging be recyclable by 2030, with a recycled content of at least 50% by 2035; the US has passed the Packaging Recycling Act, which mandates that food packaging manufacturers be responsible for the recycling of their products; China has included recyclable flexible packaging in the national key support list of green manufacturing industries.

These policies have forced packaging manufacturers to abandon traditional non-recyclable composite bag production processes and accelerate the R&D of recyclable alternatives. At the same time, consumers are increasingly inclined to choose products with green and recyclable packaging, with a 2026 global consumer survey showing that 78% of consumers are willing to pay a 10-15% premium for products with recyclable packaging, and 65% of consumers will refuse to buy products with non-recyclable packaging from brands that do not take sustainability measures. Under the dual pressure of policies and the market, recyclable composite bags have become the inevitable trend of the packaging industry's development, and our company's R&D layout has been at the forefront of this trend.

Single-Material Composite Technology – Solving Recycling Pain Points

Our R&D of recyclable composite bags is based on two core directions: single-material composite technology and high-content recycled material composite technology, both of which address the key pain points of traditional composite bags that are difficult to recycle, while ensuring that the composite bags maintain excellent performance such as barrier, durability and printability-performance that brands rely on for their products.

Single-material composite technology is the most effective solution to the problem of difficult separation of multi-layer composite materials, and it is also the focus of global packaging R&D. Our R&D team has successfully developed a series of single-material composite bags based on polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), the two most widely recycled plastic materials in the world. By optimizing the production process and adding functional coatings, we have made single-material PE/PP composite bags achieve the same barrier performance as traditional multi-layer composite bags (PET/NY/PE).

For example, our single-material PE stand-up composite pouch with a nano-coating barrier layer has excellent oxygen and moisture barrier properties, with an oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of less than 5 cc/m²/24h and a water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of less than 3 g/m²/24h-meeting the packaging requirements of medium and long shelf life food such as dried nuts, coffee and snack foods. What's more, these single-material composite bags can be directly put into the existing plastic recycling system for recycling without any separation, greatly improving the recycling efficiency and reducing the recycling cost. We have also developed customized single-material composite bag structures for different product types, such as resealable single-material PE pouches for daily food, spouted single-material PP pouches for liquid food and heavy-duty single-material PE bags for industrial products, fully meeting the diverse needs of brands.

High-Content Recycled Material Composite Technology – Reducing Virgin Plastic Use

High-content recycled material composite technology is our another core R&D direction, which aims to reduce the use of virgin plastic and increase the recycled content of composite bags, in response to the global policy requirements for recycled content and the brand's carbon neutrality goals. Our R&D team has overcome the technical difficulties of poor compatibility and low performance of recycled materials, and successfully developed a composite material with 30-70% recycled content by optimizing the formula of recycled PET/PE and blending it with functional additives.

This recycled composite material not only meets the EU's 30% recycled content requirement for 2026, but also can be customized to 50% or 70% recycled content according to the client's carbon neutrality needs. We have conducted a series of strict performance tests on the high-content recycled composite bags, and the results show that their tensile strength, seal strength, printability and barrier performance are all comparable to composite bags made of virgin materials. In addition, we have obtained the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification for our recycled composite bags, which means that the recycled content of our products is traceable and recognized globally, helping brands enhance their green brand image in the international market.

Whole Life Cycle Sustainability: Beyond Material R&D

In addition to material and technology R&D, we also pay attention to the whole life cycle sustainability of our recyclable composite bags, from raw material procurement to production, transportation and recycling. We select raw material suppliers with GRS and ISO 14001 environmental certification to ensure that the recycled materials are sourced from legal and environmentally friendly channels; we adopt green production processes in our production workshop, such as energy-saving equipment, waste gas and waste water treatment systems, reducing the carbon footprint during production; we also cooperate with professional recycling companies to provide clients with packaging recycling solutions, forming a closed loop of "production-use-recycling" of composite bags.

For example, we have established a long-term cooperation with a European recycling company to provide free recycling guidance and services for our European clients using recyclable composite bags, helping them fulfill their extended producer responsibility (EPR) under EU regulations.

Our Recyclable Composite Bags in Global Brand Applications

Our R&D-driven recyclable composite bags have been widely recognized and adopted by global brands in food, beverage and e-commerce industries. A global coffee brand has replaced its traditional non-recyclable multi-layer composite coffee bags with our single-material PE recyclable composite bags with barrier coating, covering over 30 countries and regions in Europe, America and Asia. This replacement not only helps the brand meet the local recyclable packaging regulations, but also reduces the brand's packaging carbon emissions by 42%, winning high recognition from consumers and the market.

A Chinese e-commerce giant has chosen our 50% recycled content PE composite shipping bags for its cross-border e-commerce business, with an annual order volume of over 100 million pieces, which not only reduces the use of virgin plastic by 5,000 tons per year, but also helps the brand build a green cross-border e-commerce image.
